Ted was born in 1934 in Winston-Salem, NC, where he attended local schools. He entered the candy business at the age of 11, riding on his father’s candy truck to deliver candies and sundries to customers throughout the area. By the time he was 16, he was working a route of his own when he was not in school.

In 1959, following a tour of duty in the U.S. Navy and the Air Force, he joined his father and fellow Candy Hall of Fame member James Goodman (1974), in the family-owned brokerage company, James C. Goodman & Assoc.

Following his father’s retirement in 1977, Ted continued to run the family business until his own retirement in 1997. He was the first second-generation candy professional inducted into the Candy Hall of Fame and ranks among the youngest industry professionals to be so honored.

Ted is an accomplished golfer and professional magician. He is married to Charlene and together the couple raised six children.

Ted passed away on April 29, 2009, at the age of 74.
