Terry M. Morriss
Class of 2001
Terry was born May 18, 1937, in San Pedro, CA. He joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Western Pacific from 1954 to 1958. After his service, Terry attended Long Beach City College.
In 1963, Terry married Joan in Chicago and they raised two children – Terry and Nikki.
With more than 30 years in the candy business, Terry has been a leader and team player at various brokerages. He began his career as business manager at Harry N. Nelson Co. moving on to positions with Planters/Curtiss, R.W. Brooke Co. Bradshaw Inc. and Kelley-Clarke Inc. Acosta. At the time of his induction, Terry was business manager at SummitHill Sales & Marketing, Inc.
Joining 10 others to form SummitHill Sales & Marketing was, Terry says, his most memorable moment. We showed that big is not always better, he says.
According to those who know Terry, he is innovative and motivated about the candy companies he represents. Jerry Hunt and Chris Zuleski, co-presidents of SummitHill, recall nicknaming him ’Tonnage’ and ’Candyman.’
To those who want to follow in Terry’s footsteps, he offers these words of wisdom: All we have in this business is our reputation. Do not do anything to tarnish it.
In his spare time, Terry enjoys motorcycling, deep sea fishing and being with his grandchildren.
