Ted Brierley Sr.
Class of 1973
Born in Medford, MA, in 1919, Ted is a 1936 graduate of Saugus High School and went on to attend Staley College of The Spoken Word in Brookline, MA. Following service in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he began his career in the candy business in 1946 when he became national retail promotional manager for Leaf Gum Co.
From 1948 through 1952, he held sales positions with Peter Paul Candy, Inc. E. J. Brach & Sons and Luden’s, Inc. In 1952, he became a candy broker, eventually forming the Brierley & King Brokerage Corp. in partnership with 1979 Candy Hall of Fame inductee, Kenneth E. King.
Throughout his 54-year career in candy, Ted has received many honors, including being named AWMA Candy Ambassador in 1963 and serving as president of the Boston Candy Club in 1964. In 1990, he received industry honors as Candy Man Of The Year.
Ted passed away November 8, 2005.
