Sterling Crim

Class of 1999

A more than 24-year veteran of the retail business, Sterling was born on November 4, 1955, in Bryan, TX. He graduated from Moore High School in Oklahoma and attended Austin Community College in Austin, TX. He married LeAnn in 1964 and they raised three children; Annie, Bobby and Chris.

Sterling began his professional career in 1974 as a store manager for Lone Star Ice & Food, moving to Skillerns Drug Stores in 1979. In 1981, he joined HEB Food & Drug, of San Antonio, as drug director. He was soon promoted to the position of assistant buyer, followed by promotions to HEB brand development and category manager. At the time of his induction, he was category manager/confections.

In 1998, he won the Professional Candy Buyer of the Year award from the candy trade magazine, Professional Candy Buyer.

Sterling credited Skillerns’ Don Freeland, HEB’s Bob Brandt and his father and stepfather, Silver Crim and Bobby Boyd as the major influences on his life.
