Richard H. Eisman
Class of 1980
A native of Philadelphia, Dick was born in 1928. After serving in the U.S. Army Signal Corps and attending Pennsylvania State University, he entered the candy brokerage business in the 1950s by forming the Dick Eisman Co.
During his life-long career in the candy business he was active in both the Philadelphia Candy Salesman’s Club and the Central Pennsylvania Candy Club, serving terms as president of both organizations.
Dick’s service to the industry was recognized by many facets of the business, witnessed by his election to the National Association of Tobacco Distributor’s Candy Honor Roll for nine consecutive years, and being named Candy Ambassador by the National Candy Wholesalers Association in 1966.
After 30 years in the brokerage business, Dick merged the Eisman Co. with the Eisman Gleit organization, now known as Eisman Gleit Four Star, LLC, where he says he was fortunate to have worked with his brother Stan, nephew Brett and partner, Mort Gleit.
Dick, who retired in 1998, says he loved his work, his customers and the factories he represented. In fact, he says he never got up in the morning and said: Oh, I hate to go to work today. He truly had fun selling candy.
