Paul A. Stitcher

Paul was born May 29, 1929, in Cumberland, MD, where he graduated from Allegany High School.

He began his career in the candy business in 1949 when he joined the confection division of Beechnut Packing Co. as a salesman in 1949. In 1960, he moved to the other side of the table when he became a buyer for Goldsmit-Black Candy & Tobacco Co. a position he held until joining the Washington Tobacco Co. as a buyer in 1968. The following year he returned to the brokerage side of the business when he joined P.A. Shinnamon & Assoc. as a broker. After 33 years service to the industry, he retired from the company in 1988.

Paul was honored numerous times throughout his career, including being named Candy Ambassador at the 1977 NCWA convention. He has also been honored by his peers, receiving the T.D. Ellott Founders Award for Outstanding Service to the Confectionery Salesman’s Club of Baltimore, an organization he also served as president for four years.

In 1981, Paul was named Confectionery Salesman of the Year by the Maryland Assoc. and Candy Distributors, Inc.

Paul passed away April 10, 2010.
