Michael J. Giblin
Class of 2005
On February 6, 1948, Michael was born in Ossining, NY. He graduated from New York’s Pace University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and marketing. He married Lisa in 2005 and they have three children – Allison, Meredith and Ashley.
After a stint with Duracell as a sales training manager, Michael entered the candy business in 1975 as Eastern divisional sales manager for Cadbury USA, a position he held for more than 13 years. His years with Cadbury were fruitful; he collected five awards for Manager of the Year.
In 1989, he moved on to Danish cookie supplier Plumrose USA as national director of sales, re-entering the candy business three years later as vice-president of sales for Chupa Chups USA. There, he helped drive the company’s Spice Girls licensing launch and received recognition for top sales of Chupa Chups Ice Cream lollipops. For these efforts, the company honored him with an Appreciation of Excellence Award in 1998.
In the early 2000s, Michael tried his hand at marketing and selling Snapple Candies for Score Marketing, and then joined Blueberry Hill Foods where he was hired as director of East coast sales in 2002.
“Always be respectful of everyone,” Michael advises. “Learn to give back, and be accountable and responsible. But enjoy your work and be able to laugh at yourself, too.”
Over the years, he has been involved with his local volunteer fire department, the Connecticut Jaycees and managed youth baseball and softball teams. He collects Southern folk art and antique oak furniture and once took a stab at restoring a 1959 Triumph TR3 sports car.
