Lee V. Hartman was born October 31, 1953, in Toledo, OH, to Vernon and Wilma. He has a sister, Dee.

After attending Perrysburg High School, located in the Ohio town of the same name, he studied at The Ohio State University before transferring to Bowling Green State University, in Bowling Green, OH, where he received a B.S. in marketing.

In 1977, Lee married Susan at the First Methodist Church, in Perrysburg. Together they have three children: Caleb, Chase and Julie.

He began his 27-year career in the candy business in 1984 as a regional sales manager for Daniels Packaging, of Hendersonville, NC. His primary responsibilities were confectionery accounts with a concentration on cold seal applications. After three years with the company, he was honored with the Salesman of the Year award.

In 1989, Printpack, Inc. acquired Daniels Packaging and Lee became the company’s business manager with a focus on confectionery items, overseeing many Mars, Inc. products. He was promoted to sales manager for the confectionery division in 1991. Marketing and technical responsibilities were added to his duties in 1997, when he took on the role of sales, marketing and technical manager for Printpack’s confectionery division.

Printpack merged its snack food and confectionery divisions in 2004, and Lee became the sales manager responsible for sweet snacks, a position he holds today.

Lee attributes his success to his ability to call on friends he has made within the industry. He says he remains in the business not only because it is fun, but also because it allows him to spend time with people he enjoys being with.

He has been an active National Confectioners Association member since 1984, and has served on the Suppliers Advisory Board since 1997. He is currently vice-chairman of that board and will become its chair in 2012.

Lee has been a member of the Kettle Committee since 2004, serving as secretary in 2007, vice-chairman in 2008 and chairman in 2009.

An avid fly fisherman, Lee is an active member of the Atlanta Fly Fishing Club and has been a member of Trout Unlimited since 1994.

Lee also enjoys playing golf, gardening and working out.
