Kenneth E. King
Class of 1979
Until his retirement in 1983, Kenneth devoted his entire 35-year career to the business of selling candy. A graduate of Weston High School, Weston, MA, the New Preparatory School, Cambridge, MA, and Tufts College, Medford, MA, he began his career in 1949 when he became a regional salesperson for New England Confectionery Co. (NECCO).
In 1955, he joined the Schutter Candy Co as sales promotion manager, a position he held until 1957 when he became western sales manager for Chunky Chocolate Co.
In 1959 he struck out on his own with the formation of the King Brokerage Co. eventually joining another company to form the Brierley & King Brokerage Corp. where he remained a partner until his retirement.
Kenneth has been honored many times for his outstanding contributions to the industry, including being named an AWMA Candy Ambassador in 1974 and receiving the 1975 Lou Spector Award. In 1981 he served as president of the Boston Confectionery Salesmen’s Club and as president of the Candy Brokers of America in 1975. He retired in 1983.
Kenneth passed away April 11, 2010.
