Jim Myerson

Class of 2004

A Los Angeles native, Jim was born in1926. After attending high school in LA, he earned his bachelor of arts degree from Stanford University and went on to serve as a radio technician in the U.S. Navy.

He married Diane in 1958 and together they have two children, Dana and Carol.

At the time of his induction, Jim served as secretary and treasurer of Ben Myerson Candy Co. The candy supplier was founded by his father, who Jim says has been his most important career influence.

The most memorable business moment for Jim was the nine years he spent on the board of directors of the National Confectioners Association, where he made many industry friends.

Reflecting on his 60 years at Ben Myerson, Jim says fewer customers, most overtaken by large retailers, makes it a challenge for smaller suppliers to compete in the category. He advises: “We aren’t in the candy business. We are in the pleasure and food business. Look beyond the obvious for opportunities.”

When asked what he might do differently, Jim doesn’t hesitate to answer: “Very little. Looking back, I have no regrets. It’s a wonderful business.”

In his spare time, Jim enjoys playing golf, travel, crossword puzzles, sailing, wine tasting and brushing up on his French.

Jim passed away November 3, 2008.
