Jack Cappel

Jack was born on December 20, 1917, in Montreal, Canada. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps and attended New York University. On December 13, 1952, he married Florence, now deceased. He has three children – Beverly, Roberta and Jonathan.

Jack began his 53-year career in the candy industry in 1949 as a messenger for English toffee supplier Edward Sharp & Sons, eventually working his way up to vice-president. In 1960, he moved on to food importer Adolph Goldmark & Sons where he was appointed vice-president.

In 1966, Jack and his wife founded Dorval Trading Co. Ltd. where he served as chairman at the time of his induction.

Jack offers this advice to those entering the business: “Before entering into any venture, make sure you have all your facts straight. Do not indulge wishful thinking and be prepared for the unexpected.”

He credits his success to his wife and says she had the biggest influence on his career.

Jack was selected as a National Candy Wholesalers Association Diplomat in 1981.

Jack passed away July 15, 2018.
