Hy Falkowitz
Class of 1972
Hy was born in Rochester, NY, and spent his adult life as a resident of Syracuse. He co-founded the brokerage F & R Confectionary Sales Co. there in 1956 and served as President. The company covered the upstate New York area from Albany west to Buffalo representing Standard Brands, the H.B. Reese Candy Co. and Tootsie Roll Industries, among other noted manufacturers.
A firm believer in the importance of fraternal organizations within his trade, Hy was a former president of the Empire State Candy Club, past director of the National Candy Salesman’s Association (now the NCSA) and a founding member of the Candy Brokers Association of America.
Devoted to his family and profession, Hy was also an avid fisherman who spent a good portion of his summers in Ontario, Canada near Westport — an area introduced to him by the Reese family who often joined him on vacation there. He was also a member of the Philo Mount Sinai Masonic Lodge, Tigris Shrine and the Central City Consistory. Hy passed away at the age of 79 in 1984.
