Howard Wirth

Class of 1992

Howard was born in New York City in 1928 and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1949. His career in the confectionery business began in 1949 with the Edgar P. Lewis Co. of Massachusetts. In 1953 he became a broker in Pittsburgh, PA, specializing in concession sales to theatre chains. He joined D.C. Sales Co. in the New York City area in 1955.

At the time of his induction, Howard was chief executive officer of the Wirth-Daniels Corp. of Rosemont, IL. Founded by Howard in 1966, the firm became one of the largest candy brokerages in the nation.

Howard moved to Chicago in 1960 to join the Al Fowler Co. as a partner, assuming control of the company after Al Fowler’s death. The company later became the Wirth-Daniels Corp.

Howard married Debra and raised two children, Robert and Wendy.

Howard passed away November 30, 2019.
