Dominick J. Romano

Class of 2007

On January 4, 1956, Dominick, also known as DJ, was born in Dover, NJ. He graduated from Blair Academy in Blairstown, NJ, and attended Fairleigh Dickinson University.

DJ and his wife Cathy, whom he married in 1979, have three children: Martine, Arielle and Drew.

He began his 33-year career at Ronetco Supermarkets, part of the Wakefern/ShopRite Supermarkets cooperative, in 1974 as a part-time grocery clerk and moved up the ranks, serving as a front-end manager, assistant store manager, general store manager, grocery supervisor and vice-president of operations.

At the time of his induction he was vice-president and COO of the seven-store chain, which he operates in partnership with his father and brother.

When asked his favorite part of working in the candy business, DJ says he loves to meet new and fun-loving people in the field and attending annual candy conventions.

He also fondly remembers the great excitement of grand openings and re-openings of new and remodeled stores. He says nothing compares with participating in the teamwork and tremendous amount of focused energy that goes into opening new stores.

One of DJ’s proudest moments was when he was honored by the New York Candy Club in 1990 as Merchandiser of the Year.

He is an active member of his community, involved in several organizations, including Lady of the Lake Church, the Blair Academy and Centenary College Board of Trustees. He also chairs the Hilltop Country Day School Board and the Newton Memorial Hospital Foundation Capital Campaign.

To get away from it all, DJ enjoys skiing, collecting wines and gardening.
