Andrew Gazerro
Class of 1991
Andy was born in Providence, Rhode Island and is President of A. Gazerro & Associates, Inc., a New England Brokerage located in Johnston, Rhode Island, which he started in 1976. After trying his hand at real estate, accounting and computers, he began his career in the confectionery business when he was hired to sell candy and gum for Beech-Nut Gum and Lifesavers as an account manager in 1965. Later he went on to work in the same capacity for the New England Confectionery Company – NECCO, the oldest candy company in the United States, and then for Murray Allen Imports, which was a leader in the candy, cookie and novelty import business in the 1970’s. It was the decision of Murray Allen Imports to turn to having broker representation that enabled Andy to become a confectionery and snack broker.
Besides the everyday running of A. Gazerro & Associates, Andy has and continues to be very active and supportive of the candy industry. He is a past president of the Boston Confectionery Salesmen’s Club and served on its Board of Directors for several years until it ceased existence. He represented the Boston Club as its candy ambassador at the National Candy Wholesalers Association Convention which is now the AWMA in 1982. During the 1980’s, he was a Board member of the National Candy Brokers Association. Then in 1991 Andy was extremely honored to be inducted into the Candy Call of Fame in Hershey, PA. and continues to attend the NCSA and NCA functions that are held during the year.
Andy has lived in Rhode Island all of his life, first in Providence and then in Cranston where he presently lives with his wife, Dolores. Together they have two children – Andy, a dentist, and Christine, a physical therapist and one of the first recipients of a NCSA Scholarship Award. He has three grandchildren – all of which love candy! When not working at selling candy, Andy just likes to putter around the yard and garden, golf if and when possible and travel some.
