Robert Myerson
Class of 2004
Bob was born in Los Angeles in 1924. After graduating from Los Angeles High School, he attended Los Angeles City College. During his U.S. Army tour of duty in the Philippines from 1943 to 1946, he attained the rank of sergeant with the 428th Armored Field Artillery.
He married Barbara in 1952 and they have three children: James, who serves as president of Ben Myerson Candy Co.; and Linda and Allen, who are also active in the company. At the time of his induction, Bob served as chairman of BMCC.
Bob says his success can be attributed to his father and his children. He explains that his father “guided my brother and myself and then gave the business to us.” He sees the industry today as “far more concentrated,” recalling: “When I first started as a salesman, we had hundreds of wholesalers, vending machine accounts and chain accounts in California alone. Now there are only a few dozen.”
His hobbies include stamp collecting. He also serves as a trustee of the Craft & Folk Art Museum of Los Angeles and is a member of the UCLA Undergraduate School of Business Council.
