Russell D. Albers
Class of 2006
Russ was born in Alden, IA, on December 17, 1926. Prior to earning a degree from Iowa State University, he served two years as a Naval Aviation Cadet. Russ is married to Helen and they have one daughter, Candis.
Russ began his career in the industry as a retail supervisor trainee at McFarlane’s Candies in 1950. By 1959, he was the company president and continued to work there until 1973 when he joined See’s Candy Co., as vice-president and general manager.
In 1984, Russ became vice president and general manager of Jelly Belly Candy Co., then Herman Goelitz Confectionery, and served as president from 1987 to 1996. At the time of induction he served as chief advisor to the company.
Russ has served on the Board of Directors for the NCA, and in 1972 received the group’s Distinguished Service Award. Further, he successfully led the fight against the California tax on candy and snacks.
Still active after 55 years in the industry, he received the Kettle Award in 1995 and at the time of his induction, he served on the NCA’s Legislative Affairs Committee.
In his free time, Russ enjoys traveling, reading, golfing, tennis, deep-sea fishing and the study of wineries.
Russ passed away November 13, 2006.
