Richard Medwar
Class of 2007
A native of Boston, Rich was born on June 2, 1944. He graduated from Boston Latin H.S. and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University. He also received certificates in executive management from the University of Virginia, Cornell University and Northwestern University. He and Patricia, whom he married in 1971, have three children – Suzanne, Richard and Kathleen.
Rich spent 21 years working in various divisions of what is now known as Altria. He began his candy career in 1968, as a regional sales manager at Philip Morris Group, working his way up to trade marketing director. He then moved to the General Foods Division where he served as convenience marketing director before joining the Kraft Division as director of marketing.
He moved to Mars, Inc. in 1989 as national sales director, and in 2000 joined Ferrara Pan Candy Co. as vice-president of business development.
In addition to his responsibilities at Ferrara Pan, Rich is active on the board of the National Confectioners Association, serving on a range of committees.
Working with his father in the family’s retail business during his school years, Rich learned the art of retail and was strongly influenced by his father’s work ethic and passion for everything he did.
Rich was honored with the You Make the Difference Award five times while at Mars, Inc. and received numerous awards throughout his years at Kraft, General Foods and Philip Morris, including the Silver Ring Award for outstanding performance and a Communications Emmy Award. He has also been honored with the NCA Distinguished Service Award and NAWGA Industry Leadership Award.
In his free time, Rich enjoys fly fishing, hiking and riding his Harley Davidson.
