Henry Bennett

Class of 1973

Henry and his wife, Carol, raised two sons, Mark and Fred. Henry joined Bennett Trucking, Inc. in 1933 while attending Cooper Union University’s engineering program.

Located in Brooklyn, NY, the company was responsible for shipping assorted goods throughout New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. Henry entered the candy business when Topps Chewing Gum, Inc. started exclusively using Bennett to deliver its products in the New York metropolitan area.

Under his direction the company’s reputation grew throughout the industry. It became a distributor for a number of confectioners including Pecheur Lozenge, Henry Heide, Tell Chocolate, Broadway Confections, Agress Nut and See, Toms Foods, R.L. Albert and Son, Ward Candy, Sunflower Packing, Schraft’s Candy and Brach’s. At the time of his induction, Henry served as the corporation’s president.

In 1960, Henry’s son, Mark, joined the business, marking three generations of Bennett’s in the confectionery industry.
